So, I decided to take up running.

A few weeks ago, I thought to myself:

"I should take up running. It's cheap, you can do it anywhere, and it might not be a bad idea to develop at least enough stamina to take a flight of stairs without puffing before cracking open that Jillian Michaels book."

(An aside: I hate running. Used to love it, but it started becoming less fun around the time I started becoming less fit. Go figure.)

While that thought was still bouncing around in my little brain (no doubt on its way to being forgotten or dismissed for some reason or other), a member of a forum I frequent talked about her success with The Beginning Runner's Handbook by Ian MacNeill and The Sport Medicine Council of B.C. It's a 13 week program that is designed to build your stamina and prepare your body for running. Each session is a combination of running and walking. The further you progress, the more running you will do.

I figure that this is a book I can get on board with. I like having a schedule and a stop watch telling me what to do. The book isn't just a schedule - it's motivational and has some (seemingly, what do I know) good information in it. I hope to read a bit at a time to keep me committed.

Wish me luck!
